Send in your pics ya’ll!

Getting around to this later than I would have liked but I am starting to gather all the great photos from Charleston Cycle Chic Ride #2. Thanks so much to everyone for showing up and supporting the biking lifestyle!! The best part about the ride was the meetup at Fuel afterward – it was so fun to talk to everyone in person. I feel like I met some greatness! Also, a shout out to the Holy City Bike Coop for being there in force. You guys are doing a wonderful thing.

So – if you have pictures, send me the photostream or feed or files what-have-you and I’ll round them up right here. chscyclechic@gmail.com.  In the meantime, here’s a placeholder – perhaps the new official beverage of Charleston Cycle Chic.

Oh Fat Tire we love your bike!

Slow Bicycle Race – Amsterdam v. Copenhagen

I laughed so hard my stomach muscles hurt and I can’t see through my tears.  I for one, think we MUST do this tomorrow after the Cycle Chic ride, after we’ve had a chance to refuel at Fuel.  Anyone in??

Here are the official ‘Rules’ – which are also hilarious.

From all the way across the planet – New Zealand Rocks with Frocks on Bikes

All ya’ll have to check out this great organization in New Zealand – Frocks on Bikes.  They’ve got it going ON!  They are fabulous, gorgeous and most importantly, they are pedaling for change.  They’ve got events popping up all over the place – from workshops to Film Fests to Carnivals and everything in between.

From their website…

Frocks On Bikes spontaneously emerged in New Zealand, in a space of two short weeks in the lead up to the 350 Climate Action festivals being held in Auckland and Wellington.  We mobilised over 350 frockers pedalling for change – making a beautiful point as we promenaded through our cities calling for action and awareness on climate change.”

Their Facebook Group

And the weirdest thing – I clicked one of their links about “6 Reasons The World Needs More Girls on Bikes which led me to Treehugger.com the article written by a woman in Sweden and what do ya know – a picture of my red patent leather heels on my lime green bike came up.  Flickr/Social Media blows my mind!!  But really, after you marvel, read read read because what they have to say, has to do with you!

Best Quote of the Day – “Women…might find riding in high heels is easier than walking in them.”  Amen sistah!

Charleston Cycle Chic Ride – June 24th @ 6PM. Get your heels on!

Ladies (and you chic gents), how about another Charleston Cycle Chic Ride?  We had so much fun with the last one and met some great people, I thought what the hey – we should have another!  This time we’re doing it after work with a post-ride social hour included so we can laugh and chat and while a beautiful Charleston evening away.   Direct your eyes below for all the lovely details:

When: Wednesday, June 24th @6PM

Where: Meet at Marion Square (the corner of King and Calhoun).  We’ll ride down King St, left on Market, right on East Bay, around the Battery and up Ashley Avenue to end at Fuel Caribbean Cantina at the corner of Rutledge and Cannon.   Yes, the fine people of Fuel have kindly offered to take care of our bikes (and provide service with a flair) in their beautiful outdoor courtyard!

Why: Because we love to ride pretty.  Because we all know it’s the best way to see our beautiful town.  Because we definitely like to support local business.  Because we are hip to the new biking culture of Charleston.  And most importantly, because we want to have some fun!

RSVP: on Facebook or leave a comment below.

Where do we go?

Photos from the Charleston Cycle Chic Ride!

While it was storming all around us, somehow the sun managed to shine down on the Charleston Peninsula and illuminate 50 beautiful women on their fabulous bikes (and a few stylin’ guys).  We had hats and heels and skirts galore and even a couple of tandem bikes.  Shiny pink fenders, white leather seats, and all the colors of the rainbow were out in force.  Thanks to my friends Dustin Ryan and Jim Wallace (with their newly formed video company – Pedicab Productions) for all the fantastic photos and upcoming video.  Check out the ladies! There are multiple links to multiple slideshows so you can get your fill of the gorgeousness.  If anyone has others – send the links to chscyclechic@gmail.com.

Thanks to everyone for coming out to ride in support of CharlestonMoves and to show this town we love the biking lifestyle – It’s chic to ride!

Stay tuned….we think there will be more….:)

What ever should I wear on the Charleston Cycle Chic ride?

How about these?

sandalsNo really.  Maybe not those (though I’d be very impressed if you tried) but you CAN wear heels and be comfortable.  I do all the time.  And a pretty skirt, or a bathing suit, or long pants and a turtleneck, or even (dare I say) spandex.  Whatever in the world floats your boat.  Because even though this IS about Cycle Chic – it’s really just about ridin’ pretty and as you already know, what makes you feel phenomenal is what works.

You can be assured however, that I’ll be sporting a pair of high-heel coral-colored patent-leather honeys.  Shazaam!

Did you know you can RSVP on Facebook?

May 15th – Charleston Cycle Chic Ride (3 miles)

________________________________________________________________

Join us for the Charleston Cycle Chic Ride for CharlestonMoves on National Bike to Work Day

What: May 15 is National Bike to Work Day, so all you ladies in Charleston, whether you bike to work, just ride around town, or have been staring at your beach cruiser in the garage for months – show your bike some love and join us at high noon on Marion Square. Wear what you love, because we’re gonna show this town “It’s not about the spandex”. We’ll be riding in thanks to CharlestonMoves, for helping to make Charleston an even better place to live.

When: Friday, May 15. 12:00PM-1:00PM

Where: Meet at Marion Square (corner of King and Calhoun), then ride down King St, around the Battery, up East Bay, left on Market, right on Meeting and back to Marion Square. It’s about 3 miles, and please, could the views be more gorgeous? Click here to access the Google Map.

Purpose: As part of an effort to bridge the bicycle gap between the ‘jocks’ and the ‘hipsters’ and promote the biking lifestyle in Charleston, Charleston Cycle Chic is about encouraging women of all ages and lifestyles to get on a bicycle. We want to demonstrate to women that bicycling doesn’t have to involve spandex and fancy road bikes. It can be part of their everyday lives, while wearing everyday clothes. We will join the movement across Europe, in San Francisco and New York and let Charleston women know….It’s chic to ride!

Check out the Charleston Cycle Chic Ride Event on Facebook and RSVP or let us know you are coming by posting a comment below.  See you out there!
